New Student Orientation (NSO)
NSO is for students entering Iowa Western Community College. We know that college is an exciting and challenging time in your life, and our Orientation program is designed to help make the transition to college easier for you. Last year 840 students attended NSO and 87% of those students rated NSO as a good experience.
At New Student Orientation
- You will meet other incoming students.
- You will have the opportunity to interact with staff and current students.
- You will learn about academic support services, student involvement and recreation opportunities, and general tips on how to make the most of your college experience at Iowa Western.
- You will be able to ask last-minute question, and buy books or other necessities from the bookstore
- You will learn necessary success strategies from our current students.
- You will receive necessary college information including the student planner and handbook.
NSO Registration Steps
- Register for classes with an admissions advisor.
- Make an NSO Reservation - Online reservation form will be made available November 12.
- Attend NSO

NSO Schedule Outline
Check-in for NSO begin 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. NSO will last approximately 2 hours. We will cover all the necessary topics to be come knowledgeable of your college community. Then there will be ample amount of time to get your student ID, parking pass, visit financial aid and the bookstore.
JUMP, Non-Traditional Student orientation
JUMP is an orientation workshop for new non-traditional students. In addition to receiving important information about our campus, participants at JUMP learn about advising, study strategies, and time management. They also interact with current non-traditional students who share their experiences and offer tips for success.This orientation will have a slightly different itinerary.
